Shamrock Club

 Cead Mile Failte!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the official website of the Shamrock Club of Sacramento.

The Shamrock Club of Sacramento, was founded in 2005, as a nonprofit organization formed to preserve Irish culture and historical traditions, in the Sacramento Region. The club is a non-denominational, non-political social club, open to all those who wish to connect with their Irish Heritage or just want to learn more about the Irish culture.  We are on Facebook (ShamrockClubofSacramento), Twitter (ShamrockClub) and our website (www.Shamrocksac.com).

Our Irish-American cultural society hosts/co-hosts many annual events, including the St. Patrick’s Parade in March, the Half-Way to St. Patrick’s celebration in September, and a Christmas Celebration in December.  We partner with other Celtic clubs in the area for many other social activites.

The business of the Shamrock Club is conducted by an elected Board of Directors. Meetings of the Shamrock Club are held the second Wednesday of each month. at 7 PM. Membership and Board meetings are open to anyone interested in our club and our activities, whether they are Irish or not. (Details at Celtic Calendar)

I wish to thank the founding members of the club for their vision in establishing this club and their continued participation and guidance as the club moves forward and continues to grow.

Thank you for your visit; please take the time to explore our web site and get to know us. If you do not find the information you are searching for our webmaster will be happy to direct your inquiry.

The August Meeting is Wednesday, August 10 at 7PM - Carmichael Library, 5605 Marconi.  "The Lion of Glenstrae"
Tonight we feature special presentation by new author, Ed Moore, from his manuscript, The Lion of Glenstrae. In Ed's words...
"This is a true love story set in Renaissance Scotland during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots. It is the tale of the events that lead to the beginning of the MacGregor-Campbell feud. I have attached his "one-sheet" giving more info on the story".

"Of interest to the Shamrock club is, a portion of the story takes place in Ireland. The protagonist spent at least six months as a "Redshank" mercenary fighting for Sorley Boy MacDonnell against the forces of Shane O'Neill in the Glynns of Antrim. It might be interesting for club members to have an overview of the period and the roll of the galloglass and redshank fighters in the conflict in the struggles of the times." The Shamrock Club looks forward to offering you this presentation and hope you enjoy it.

This is also Election Night. We definitely hope to see as many club members as possible at the meeting.

The Half Way to Saint Patrick's Day Family Picnic - Sunday, September 11. Mark your Calendars
The Annual "Half-Way" family picnic starts about 11 a.m. at Arden Park, 1000 La Sierra. The club provides meat, condiments, water, soda,...plenty of great music. Everyone else brings a potluck dish and the "craic"....by "craic" I mean the conversation and comraderie.  This is a family-friendly event. There is a playground very close by for the kids. Sometime in late August and early September we'll be getting out more information....and Jane Lamborn will be organizing potluck donations. Anyone interested in organizing games, for kids, is welcome to do that. Call me, Sandy at 916-486-4954, to let me know. Non-members are asked to give a $3/per person donation at the potluck. If you're a member, expect a call.
